Robert H. Filkins Sr., 78, of De Soto died Jan. 10, 2015, at his home. Mr. Filkins was the owner/operator of General Auto Service, an auto body shop in St. Louis. He was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in De Soto. Born Jan. 20, 1936, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Frank and Hulda Mae (Hardin) Filkins. He was preceded in death by two wives: Barbara (Horvath) Filkins and Myrtle (Rawson) Pettus-Filkins.
He is survived by six children: Bob Filkins Jr. of New Bloomfield, Terry Filkins of St. Louis, Donna Filkins of St. Charles, Tim Filkins of High Ridge, Cathy (Steve Jr.) Sinkler of O’Fallon and Tom (Karen) Filkins of High Ridge; a brother: Roy Filkins of St. Louis; six grandchildren: Sarah (Chuck) Gardner, John Filkins, Steve Sinkler III, Ryan Sinkler, Tessa Filkins and Kayla Filkins; and two great-grandchildren: Paxten and Aven Gardner.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Richard “Dick” Filkins; and two sisters-in-law: Betty Filkins and Eleanor Filkins.
A memorial gathering is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and a memorial service for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 13675 Mt. Olive Road, in De Soto, officiated by Stephanie Leornard. Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 13675 Mt. Olive Road, De Soto, 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
