Rita Marie Skaggs, 93, of Festus died March 1, 2019, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Skaggs was a charter member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus, where she was active with the quilting group. Born May 11, 1925, in Festus, the daughter of the late Henry Schuh and Mary (Kohler) Schuh Herman. She was preceded in death by her husband: Willis Alvin Skaggs.
She is survived by a son: Eric G. (Kimberly) Skaggs of Cottontown, Tenn.; two grandsons: Shane (Allison) Skaggs and Jared (Jenny) Skaggs; seven great-grandchildren: Olivia, Juliana, Gabriella, Luke, Kylee, Makenzie and Caroline Skaggs; and a sister: Verneda (the late Clifford) Moser of Festus.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Matilda “Till” (the late Earl) Skaggs and Virginia (the late Roland) Lucas; five brothers: Norman (the late Norma) Schuh, Valley J. (the late Virginia “Virgie”) Schuh, Fred (the late Ethel) Schuh, and infants Ernest and Edward Schuh; and her stepfather: Andrew A. Herman.
Funeral Mass was held March 5 at Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus, officiated by Father Gregory Klump. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady Church or in the form of Masses. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
