Reeves couple

Richard and Mae Reeves, both of Festus, had been married nearly 74 years when they died within two days of one another.

Richard Hoover Reeves, 91, died Sept. 2, 2020, at Hillcrest Nursing Care in De Soto. Mr. Reeves worked for Yellow Freight until he retired. Born May 17, 1929, in Egypt, Ark., he was the son of the late Lushus Tedward and Truly (Davis) Reeves.

Mae Ora (Henry) Reeves, 90, died Sept. 4, 2020, at the couple’s Festus home. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing the guitar. She had worked at several different businesses as a security guard in prior years. Born Nov. 22, 1929, in Beebe, Ark., she was the daughter of the  late John and Birdie (Allison) Henry.

The couple is survived by three sons: Richard Lee Reeves of Festus, Gary Dale Reeves of De Soto and Jimmy Ray Reeves of St Elmo, IL; four daughters: Birdie Mae (Herschel) Stokes of Collierville, Tenn., Martha Jane Adams of De Soto, Donna Kay (Charles) Johnson of O'Fallon and Linda Fay Dutton of Festus; a granddaughter: Nancy (Carlos) Rivas of South Haven, Miss.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; Mr. Reeves’ sister: Hazel Auston of Austin, Texas; and a nephew: Herschel Stokes of Memphis, Tenn.

They were preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Barbara Reeves; Mr. Reeves’ two brothers: Homer Reeves and Georgey Reeves; and his sister: Mary O'Neal; and Mrs. Reeves’ four siblings: C.E. Henry, Lola Kraft, Evelyn Chrisco and Mary Louise Jones.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at noon Saturday, Sept. 12, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins, in Festus, officiated by Pastor Bryan Roberts. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri, 1201 Macklind Ave, St Louis, 63110. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
