Richard Grove Stis, 87, of Hematite died June 21, 2019, at his home. Mr. Stis had worked as a machinist for a power company and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast guard. He was a member of First Christian Church of Hematite, where he served as an elder for many years. He was a member of the Jefferson County Republican Club, the American Legion Post 253 in Festus and VFW Post 3777 in Crystal City. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, particularly trout fishing, volunteering and traveling. He was born March 23, 1932, in St Louis, the son of the late Charles and Katherine (Grove) Stis.
He is survived by his wife: Teresa “Teri” (Edwards) Stis of Hematite; a son: Rick (Robin) Stis of Hematite; two daughters: Sharon (Clif) Campbell of Festus and Cindy (Tim) Abbey of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a brother: Donald (Helen) Stis of Fisher, Ind.; and five grandchildren: Amanda, Nichol, Jason, Kristen and Brandon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Evon (Beck) Stis; a grandson: Cole Campbell; and a brother: David Stis.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Dr., in Festus. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, at First Christian Church of Hematite, 3711 State Hwy. P, in Hematite, officiated by Pastor Phillip Wallace. Burial is in the Hematite Christian Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Hematite. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
