Ralph Clement Boyer, 86, of Crystal City died Jan. 14, 2020, at Crystal City Oaks Skilled Nursing in Crystal City. Mr. Boyer began a longtime coaching career in 1959 when St. Pius X High School in Festus was founded. He also worked there as a teacher and athletic director and retired in 1998. He was a member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus, the Missouri Athletic Association and the Knights of Columbus 1230 in Festus. Born Oct. 5, 1933, in Desloge, he was the son of the late Maude M. (McDowell) and Narcis Boyer. He is survived by his wife: Mary Ann (Wagner) Boyer.
He is survived by three daughters: Mary Diane (the late Mike) LaJoie of Atchison, Kan., Terri (Harry William) Boyer-Trimble of Willow Street, Penn., and Liz (Jack) Rothweiler of Crystal City; two sons: Bob (Sara) Boyer of Festus and John Boyer of Burlington, Vt.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: Clifton Boyer, Bernard Boyer, Norbert Boyer, Adrian Boyer and James Boyer.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Our Lady Catholic Church, 1550 St. Marys Lane, in Festus, officiated by Father Gregory Klump. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the St. Pius/Ralph C. Boyer Scholarship or the Parkinson’s Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
