Phillip R. “Beans” Portell, 82, of Festus died June 6, 2018, at Festus Manor Care Center. Mr. Portell was a retired truck driver. He is a past member of Elks Lodge 1721. He enjoyed fishing and duck hunting with his sons and spending time at Lake Seven Falls with friends. He was the son of the late White and Magdalene Portell.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years: Deborah (Davis) Portell of Festus; one sister: Jerry Vaughn of Knoxville, Tenn.; four children: Steve (Pam) Portell of Crystal City, Mike (Rhonda) Portell of Festus, Kim (Wayne) Kettinger of Ste. Genevieve and Dan (Laurie) Portell of Crystal City; two stepchildren: Tonya Ferguson of Festus and Brian Worley of Festus; 12 grandchildren: Paige (Colton Kennedy) Portell-Wasson of Crystal City, August (Cassie Williams) Portell of Festus, Ryan (Chelsey) Dickerman of Herculaneum, Michaela (Matt) McKelvey of Festus, Kevin (Chandra) Schleper of Columbus, Ky., Kelly (Jason) Morris of Columbus, Ky., Danyelle (Brandon Stillman) Portell of Festus, Eric Portell of Crystal City, Nick Maxwell of De Soto, Frank Maxwell of Festus, Katelyn Maxwell of Festus and Antonio Carson of Festus; nine great-grandchildren: Ava and Hanley Wasson of Crystal City, Harper and Abel Portell of Festus, Malikai and Gracie Morris of Columbus, Ky., and Bryson and Scarlett Maxwell of De Soto; and two nephews: Jason (Jill) Vaughn and David (Gail) Vaughn.

Mr. Portell donated his body to medical research. Memorial services will be private. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
