Paul S. “Cherv” Chervenak, 69, of Hillsboro died Sept. 30, 2022, in St. Louis. Mr. Chervenak was raised in the Desloge area and graduated from North County High School in 1970. He attended Mineral Area College and later Southeast Missouri State University where he obtained his teaching certificate in industrial arts. He began his teaching career in the Ferguson-Florissant School District at Berkely as a junior high shop teacher. He came to Hillsboro R-3 School District in 1979 as a junior high shop teacher and became the director of buildings and grounds, serving from 1989 until he retired in 2004. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro, the Hillsboro Community Civic Club and the Missouri State Teachers Association. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and hunting, and was known for his volunteer efforts in the community. Born Nov. 26, 1952, in Bonne Terre, he was the son of the late Joyce R. (Halbert) and John Chervenak.
He is survived by his wife: Geraleen A. (Kiefer) Chervenak of Hillsboro; a daughter: Lori M. Chervenak of West Monroe, La.; a son: Kenneth A. Chervenak of Fenton; two brothers: John P. (Vicki) Chervenak of Poplar Bluff and Joseph A. (Marcella) Chervenak of Park Hills; a sister: Mary K. (Doug) Gunder of Desloge; and many other family members and friends.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 4 p.m. until a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to the Hillsboro Food Pantry, 10399 Hwy. 21, Hillsboro, 63050; or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3 International Drive, Suite 200, Rye Brook, N.Y., 10573. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
