Marcella Viola (Politte) Scharf, 99, of De Soto died Sept. 2, 2023, in De Soto. Mrs. Scharf served in the U.S. Army. After her honorable discharge, she went on to work as an executive senior secretary for Bell Laboratories. She was a member of the Lutheran Quilters Club and WELCA. She was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, quilting, doing handwork and spending time with her family and friends. Born Jan. 27, 1924, in Vineland, she was the daughter of the late Louise (Coleman) and John Politte. She was preceded in death by her husband: John Scharf.
She is survived by a daughter: Christine (Loren) Bodendieck of St. Louis; three grandsons: Scott (Randi) Scharf of De Soto, Adam (Cheryl) Bodendieck of Springfield and Zachary (Kristin) Bodendieck of St. Louis; 10 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son: Danny Scharf, a brother: Oscar Politte; and three sisters: Marie Solomon, Audrey Westhoff and Louise Recar.
A funeral service was held Sept. 8 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in De Soto, officiated by Pastor Michael Rose. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in De Soto. Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.
