Wanda L. (McConnell) Evitts, 90, of Dittmer died Feb. 1, 2025. Mrs. Evitts was a member of Local 605 Retail Clerks Union. She enjoyed painting yard signs, crafting chocolate candies and suckers and spending time with family and friends, including her dog, Maddie. She will be remembered for her kindness, creativity and devotion to family. Born Aug. 11, 1934, in Gibson County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Vashti (O’Neal) McConnell.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Major Whitson Evitts Jr, whom she married on May 16, 1973, in Dittmer.
She is survived by two children: Rhonda (Robert) Friedman and Kelly Parke; a granddaughter: Allyssa Friedman; and many other family members.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter: Angela Parke; and seven siblings: Orvis McConnell, Geneva Garman, Eugene McConnell, Marvin McConnell, Howard McConnell, Tommy McConnell and Margie Dersch.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.
