Virginia Anna Mae (Baer) Moonier, 96, of Godfrey, Ill., died March 6, 2026, at San Gabriel Memory Care in Godfrey. Mrs. Moonier had several careers working with the public, but found her passion in fine jewelry as department manager for the May Company, a subsidiary of JCPenney. Longtime residents of Perryville, the family relocated in 1966 to Crystal City for her husband’s employment. In 2000, they relocated to Godfrey, Ill. She and her husband attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church. They enjoyed their property at Lake of the Ozarks for many years, but decided to sell and become Florida snowbirds for 17 years to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather. There, they enjoyed music and formed their band with other musicians and became “The Country Singers.” Both sang while her husband played the guitar and she played the keyboard. Their band performed at many functions in their park and throughout their Florida community, making many friends. A skilled craftswoman, she especially loved basket weaving, Swedish weaving and quilting, making items for friends and family. She also loved to garden, arrange flowers, solve puzzles and play card and board games. Most of all, she loved spending time with friends and family. She will be remembered as a kind, generous and loving person. Born July 8, 1929, in Perryville, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Anna (Berkbigler) Baer.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Alvin Joseph Moonier, whom she married on April 22, 1950, in Perryville.
She is survived by a daughter: Sharon Anne (Jeff) Campbell of Godfrey; two sons: Randall Joseph "RJ" (Esther) Moonier of St. Charles and Kenneth Lee "Ken" (Janell) Moonier of Crystal City; two sisters-in-law: Mary Cottner and Joann (Joan) Moonier; four grandchildren: Brooke Moonier, Derrick (Christina) Moonier, Brandon (Erica) Moonier and Jeris (Brandy) Moonier; and eight great-grandchildren: Jersey, Brynn, Eliza, Jakob, Jionni, Jaxon, Tate and Ellie Jo.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Cecilia Hunt and Viola Marie Lowes.
Visitation is scheduled from 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at Ford & Young Funeral Home, 110 S West St., in Perryville. A memorial service will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1000 Rosati Court, in Perryville, officiated the Rev. Joe Geders, C.M. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Ford & Young Funeral Home.
