Dalton-Shumaker, Teresa

Teresa LaJune Dalton-Shumaker, 73, of Festus died June 24, 2024, at her home. Mrs. Dalton-Shumaker retired from owning and operating an antique mall. She also was a non-denominational Christian. Those who knew her as an adult would find it hard to believe she was ever shy. She enjoyed making conversation with strangers, making people laugh, spending time with her family and friends, gardening, cooking, reading, writing and thrift shopping. She married the boy next door and had two children, Laura and Jason. Later she married Frank, with whom she spent more than 30 years, and who gave her the opportunity to welcome his daughter, Crystal, into her life.  She will be remembered for her caring and generous nature. Born Sept. 17, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Ruth (Travis) Rohlfing and John Dalton.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Franklin Shumaker.

She is survived by three children: Crystal Echols of Long Beach, Calif., Laura Knight of St. Charles and Jason Klein of Festus; nine grandchildren: Angel, Lindsey, Sierra, Sophie, Raven, Valerie, Parker, Maya and Dominic; three great-grandchildren: Andrew of Festus, Hadleigh and Paisley of Maryland; two siblings: John Dalton and Pam Dickerman; and many other family members and friends.

She also was preceded in death by a sibling: Carl Rohlfing; and many other family members.

Mrs. Dalton-Shumaker chose to be an organ donor and donated her body for medical research and education. A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Jefferson Memorial VFW Post 3777, 900 VFW Drive, in Crystal City. Arrangements were under the direction of Lamplight Donor Services Cremation through Forest City Mortuary Services.
