Spencer Waddell, 96, of Eureka died Jan. 8, 2026, in Fenton. Mr. Waddell grew up in Sherman and was a 1947 Eureka High School graduate. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of corporal. In 1960, he founded Waddell Concrete, a business that remains based in Eureka. He loved water sports and looked forward to family float trips. He was a 63-year member, past president, Melvin Jones Fellow and Life Member of the Eureka Lions Club and was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born June 9, 1929, in Sherman, he was the son of the late Charles and Katherine (Cornelius) Waddell.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years: Mary Ann (Wallach) Waddell, whom he married in 1954; five children: Vicki Vogt, Chuck (Kim) Waddell, Randy (Lisa) Waddell, Brian (Cathy) Waddell and Vince (Laura) Waddell; 16 grandchildren: Adrienne (Mike) Fink, Torri (Brandon) Stark, Liz Waddell, Kathleen Waddell, Nicole Waddell, Garrett Waddell, Spencer Waddell, Rachel (Bill) Chetney, Christin (Sean) Schlake, Hannah (Tommy) Lawless, Ethan Waddell, Jacob Waddell, Abbey (Kyle) Ebert, Raegan (Doug Queen) Waddell, Zoey Zlatnic and Weston Zlatnic; 17 great-grandchildren: Henry, Kason, Gunnar, Kolten, Layne, Killian, Kipley, Dierks, Harper, Indi, Stella, Liam, Cohan, Marin, Louisa, Faye and Tillie; a sibling: Margaret Korbas; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by four siblings: Charles Waddell, John Waddell, Frank Waddell and Joe Waddell.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road, in Ballwin. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 350 E. Fourth St., in Eureka. Interment with full military honors will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s building fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory.
