Carson, Shirley

Shirley (Baker) Carson, 87, of Barnhart died Oct. 17, 2025. Mrs. Carson was known for her heart of gold. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed going on the road with her husband, going to the casino, watching her hummingbirds on her back deck, chasing squirrels off the deck for eating the bird seed, bowling, taking care of her dogs and cat, and cooking as if she were feeding an army. Born Oct. 5, 1938, in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Ida (Moody) and Richard Baker. She was the stepdaughter of the late Ada Baker.

She is survived by her husband: Richard Carson; a son: Steven (Nancy) Carson; three grandchildren: Christopher (Jill) Carson, Jessica (Frank) Harris and Josh (Leann) Carson; four great-grandchildren; a brother: Larry (Judy) Baker; and numerous other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son: Kevin Carson; and four siblings: Dorothy Rogers, Faye Gillam, Richard Baker and Jim Waldo.

Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial will follow. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Animal Control – Animal Resource Center. Monetary donations should be mailed to Jefferson County Animal Control with checks made out to Jefferson County. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
