Peter D. “Pete” Hammond, 71, of De Soto died April 13, 2026, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Hammond retired as president of Carpenter’s Local 2214. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 689 and Amvets Post 48. Born March 13, 1955, in De Soto, he was the son of the late William O. “Bill” and Alta M. (Eaton) Hammond.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Elsie E. (King) Hammond of De Soto; three children: Dawn (Matt) Selsor, Zeb (Annie) Hammond and Dakota (Brittany) Hammond, all of De Soto; a sibling: Alta Jayne Hammond of De Soto; a sister-in-law: Jane Hammond of Hillsboro; five grandchildren: Lo Hammond, Mac Hammond, Colter Hammond, Kevin Sanders and Harley Selsor; a great-grandchild: Mila; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Melissa “Missi” Hicks; a brother: Bill Hammond; and two sisters: Kitty Lou Nichols and Jimmie Sue Meyer.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until a funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Interment will be in Peaceful Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
