Oscar Leroy LaChance, 80, of De Soto died March 15, 2026, in St. Louis. Mr. LaChance worked for many years as a skilled welder with Metal Tec, where he was known for his dedication and craftsmanship. He served his country in the U.S. Army. During his service, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, reflecting his courage, sacrifice and commitment. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time outdoors. Whether at the shooting range or in nature, he embraced the values of independence, resilience and stewardship. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Born Nov. 14, 1945, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Oscar James LaChance and Ethyl (Williams) LaChance.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Donna (Clark) LaChance.
He is survived by two sons: Sean LaChance of Cedar Hill and Richard LaChance of De Soto; two daughters: Kaylene Kassen of De Soto and Tonia Evans of De Soto; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son: Butch LaChance; a brother: Charles LaChance; and four sisters: Bertha McKinney, Rachel Arbogast, Geraldine Coleman and Rosalee Johnson.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 27, at Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4207 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, 63108. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto.
