Michael L. Murphy, 76, of Crystal City died Oct. 21, 2024, at his home. Mr. Murphy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Elks Lodge 1721. He worked as an operating engineer for Fred Weber Construction. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513. He enjoyed spending time with family and his grandkids fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and boating. Born March 1, 1948, in Silica, he was the son of the late James E. and Evelyn M. (Vinyard) Murphy.
He was preceded by his first wife: JoEllen (Grohs) Murphy.
He is survived by his wife: Sandra (Ott) Murphy; four children: Angela (Tim) Deevers of Crystal City, Michelle (Darin) Dollar of Florida, Scott (Khristine) Bayer of Festus and Brian (Jaclyn) Bayer of Festus; eight grandchildren: Garrett (Angela), Austin, Cole, Zander, Karleigh, Kyley, Keegan and Kamden; great-granddaughter Mila on the way; and six siblings: Steve (Linda) Murphy of Festus, Kathy (Gary) Horstmann of Festus, Roger Murphy of Festus, James Murphy of Festus, Theresa (Mike) Hite of Barnhart and Don (Susan) Murphy of Festus.
Visitation is scheduled for 4 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Deacon Dan Raidt. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Brain Cancer Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
