Michael Allen McClenahan, 81, of Festus died June 14, 2024, at his home. Mr. McClenahan served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Vietnam War while stationed in Ft. Lewis, Wash. He was a draftsman for Shell Oil Corp. in Wood River, Ill., and then a maintenance welder and mobile mechanic for River Cement Corp. before retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the Bloomsdale American Legion Post 554 and the Boilermakers Union Local 455. He loved spending time with his family and friends, working on projects and helping others. He also enjoyed hunting and maintaining his property. Born July 19, 1942, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Eda Mae (Gansner) and Roy E. McClenahan.
He is survived by his companion: Darla Hagen of Festus; a daughter: Tracy (William) Kirkland of Hewitt, Texas; two sons: Tim (Dianna) McClenahan of St. Peters and Pat (Kris) McClenahan of Festus; eight grandchildren: Avery McClenahan, Erin McClenahan, Sydney Dinwiddie, Kate McClenahan, Kylie McClenahan, Kenny Pearson, Sheyenne Kirkland and Dakota Kirkland; a sister: Mary Alice (the late Dan) Kennedy of Festus; and two brothers: George L. (Arleen) McClenahan of Festus and Perry M. (Jane) McClenahan of Bloomsdale.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Barbara S. (Larry survives of Festus) Robinson, Phyllis A. (Paul “Pete” survives of California) Brewer and Dorothy L. (Kevin survives of Festus) Gale.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 4 p.m. until a memorial service at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Burial will be at a later date in Danby Cemetery in Danby. Memorials may be made to the Danby Cemetery Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
