Matthew Clarence Scaggs, 67, of De Soto died Jan. 9, 2026, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. Mr. Scaggs was known to have lived life to the fullest. He loved the outdoors, reading and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Born Feb. 8, 1958, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Juanita Gertrude (Jones) and Howard Dalton Scaggs.
He is survived by two sons: Jeremy (Brittany) Zimpfer and John Scaggs; a daughter: Amanda Scaggs; a niece: Angie (Michael) Ritch; three grandsons: Dalton Thomas, Ivan Scaggs and Isaac Scaggs; five granddaughters: Desiree Thomas, Destiny Thomas, Alyzah Scaggs, Rhylee Zimpfer and Reese Zimpfer; a great-granddaughter: Hensley Thomas-Castens; and ex-wife and friend: Allaina Scaggs.
He was preceded in death by a brother: John Howard Scaggs; and a sister-in-law: Debbie Fay (Govro) Scaggs.
A memorial visitation is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto.
