Lura Sue “Susie” Carlisle, 90, of Festus died Dec. 12, 2024, at Marymount Manor in Eureka. Mrs. Carlisle was a lifetime member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Festus, a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1956 and the longtime owner and operator of Susie’s Beauty Salon in Festus. She enjoyed baking and cooking for everyone and traveling. She was known for her extensive hat collection. Born Jan. 20, 1934, in Kennett, she was the daughter of the late Arvie (White) and Lee Bunting.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Tom Carlisle.
She is survived by a daughter: Gailynn S. Campbell of Manchester, Mo.; a son: Clifford (Sharon) Campbell of Advance; a grandson: Tony (Jennifer) Watkins; five great-grandchildren: Chase Anthony Watkins, Gage Campbell Watkins, Bethany Blatchford, Brynlea Watkins and Brooklynn Watkins; and a great-great-grandson: Archie Mendez.
She also was preceded in death by a grandson: Cole Campbell; a sister: Mavis Gulley; and five brothers: Delbert, Clarence, Jim, Glen and Blufford Bunting.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, Fifth and Mill Streets (415 Mill St.), in Festus, officiated by Pastor Aaron Watkins. A luncheon will follow in the church dining hall. Memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
