Palmer, Larry

Larry Joe Palmer, 80, of Festus died May 17, 2024, in St. Louis. Mr. Palmer served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1967. In 1984, he went on to start his own company, Sabermatic Die Saw, where he worked as a tool and die maker. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City. In his little free time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. Born March 19, 1944, in Malden, he was the son of the late Nina Janell (Rogers) and James Elvis Palmer.

He is survived by his wife of more than 59 years: Rose Mary Palmer (Schmitt) of Festus;  three sons: Larry Martin (Heather Lewis) Palmer of De Soto and James Michael (Laurel) Palmer of Imperial; a daughter: Jewel Suzanne (Gary) McNulty of Festus; seven grandchildren: Drew, Emily, Maddie, Nolan, Aubrey, Jennifer and Brittany; nine great-grandchildren: Jacob, Carter, Kaylee, Chase, Zachary, Noah, Luke, Isabelle and Brooklynn; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: James (Marilyn) Palmer and Roger Palmer; and three sisters: Patricia (Russell) Dunn, Helen (Charles) Finley and Darlene Danback.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Ave., in Festus. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 555 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, officiated by Father Michael Boehm. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
