Janet Carol Hammer, 92, of Chesterfield died Dec. 10, 2024, in Farmington. Mrs. Hammer was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards and bingo, listening to and playing music and, most importantly, spending time with her family. She also was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manchester, and a commissioned Stephen Minister. Born Jan. 4, 1932, in Merrill, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Harriet Owen.
She was preceded in death by her husband: the Rev. Edward W. Hammer.
She is survived by a daughter: Kathleen Ann (Stephen) Ciscell of De Soto; two sons: James (Debra) Hammer of Delvean, Wis., and Thomas (Ann) Hammer of Kirkwood; 13 grandchildren: Timothy (Michelle) Leach, Jeffrey Leach, Bradley (Riki) Cantu, Andrew (Sarah) Leach, Beth (Brian) King, Charlie (Kristen) Massa, Christopher (Lizz Webb) Gibson, Michelle (Bruce) Liljegren, Nicholas (Ashley Hotzel) Hammer, Abigail Hammer, Matthew (Molly) Hammer, Giovanni Russo and Hannah Dieckhaus; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Owen and Daniel Owen; and a sister: Donna Owen-Hagencord.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 327 Woods Mill Road, in Manchester. A luncheon will follow at First United Methodist Church of Festus-Crystal City, 113 Grand Ave., in Festus. Memorials may be made to the BackStoppers, Inc., 10411 Clayton Road, Suite 203, St. Louis, 63131. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto.
