James Overton “Jim” Snell, 86, of House Springs died Sept. 30, 2025. Mr. Snell, also known as “Chub” and “Pop,” grew up in Doniphan and was a 1957 Doniphan High School graduate. He was a retired schoolteacher and coach at Northwest High School, as well as for three years at Hillsboro High School. He also spent 34 years at the Teamsters Camp in Pevely. He had many hobbies throughout the years, including fishing, golfing, riding motorcycles and playing pool. He loved spending time with family and friends. One of his favorite things to do after his retirement was to hang out at his lake house and take his family out on the pontoon at Bull Shoals Lake. Born March 30, 1939, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Overton and Barbara Snell.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Carolyn (Sudie) Snell; four children: Brian (Cheryl) Snell, Kristi (Jason) Lee, Kerri (Chris) Shelton and Bradley (Christine) Snell; nine grandchildren: Lauren (Austin) Kilbourne, Collin Snell, Hunter (Madison) Lee, Colton (Julia) Lee, Raegan Shelton, Lacey Snell, Braden Snell, Jessica (Kory) Peters and Jake (Nora) Shelton; three great-grandchildren: Sadie Grace Kilbourne, Levi Reece Kilbourne and Maisie May Kilbourne; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sibling: Kathy Thomas; and a brother-in-law: Frank Thomas.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at First Baptist Church, 4375 Gravois Road, in House Springs. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Memorials may be made to the James Snell Scholarship Fund at Northwest High School. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.
