James J. Eschbach, 90, of Fenton died Oct. 31, 2025. Mr. Eschbach was a proud retiree of Stupp Bros. Bridge and Iron Co., where he dedicated 37 years of service. He also worked for First Student. He was known for his friendly nature, radiant smile and the warmth and joy he shared with others. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like fishing, dancing, tending to his yard, planting trees and visiting with his grand dogs. He will be remembered for his strength, integrity, work ethic and faith. Born Sept. 8, 1935, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Anna (Prives) and William Eschbach.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Juliana Eschbach; four children: James (Debbie) Eschbach, Jeanne Bollman, Jeffrey (Denise) Eschbach and Jennifer (John) Stephens; 11 grandchildren: Heather Eschbach, Samantha (Steve) Brunk, Ryan Eschbach, Chris Kohl, Rachel Finnk, Nina (Mike) Hickerson, Brianne Eschbach, Jake Stephens, Ally Stephens, Joshua Stephens and Anna Stephens; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson: Brad Kohl; and five siblings: William Eschbach, Theodore Eschbach, Leonard Eschbach, Dolores Fenton and Elsie Lesseg.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
