James E. “Jim” O’Dell, 87, of Cedar Hill died March 2, 2026. Mr. O’Dell was a U.S. Navy veteran. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength and devotion to family. Born Feb. 3, 1939, in Chester, Ill., he was the son of David Jacob O’Dell and Mary E. (Reed) O’Dell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years: Barbara Jeanette O’Dell; a sibling: Halley Joe O’Dell; three children: Brenda L. (Mike) Johnston, James E. (Linda) O’Dell and William J. (Lisa) O’Dell; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-5 p.m. for immediate family and from 5–8 p.m. for the public on Thursday, March 12, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. A funeral ceremony is scheduled for noon Friday, March 13, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
