Hampel, Inez

Inez Harriet Hampel, 91, of Festus died April 25, 2024, at her home. Mrs. Hampel was a retired head grocery checker, having worked for the A&P and Kroger grocery stores in the Twin City area. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City and the VFW 1831 Ladies Auxiliary in De Soto. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, traveling, fishing, playing bingo and going to River City Casino. Born Aug. 19, 1932, in Jefferson County, south of Festus, she was the daughter of the late Theresa Irene (Dorr) and Edward Alcott.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Donald Emil Hampel.

She is survived by two daughters: Cynthia (the late Philip) Moseid of Barnhart and Ann (the late Kevin) Schanz of Festus; four grandchildren: Lindsey Rug, Lisa (the late Dave) Strubinger, Andrew Smreker and Katelynn (Clay Godier) Smreker; five great-grandchildren: Emma Overmann, Weston Rug, Lane Godier, Terra (Scott) Kehlenbrink and David (Jessica Fenton) Strubinger; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by four sisters: Theresa Irene (the late Rudolph) Linderer, Marilyn (the late Chay) Charleville, Jean Marie (the late William) Westhoff and Florence L. “Peggy” (John survives of Festus) Oberle; and four brothers: Richard “Dick” (the late Helen) Alcott, Joe (the late Josephine) Alcott, Edward (the late Kathy) Alcott and Don (the late Selma Braun) Alcott.

Visitation is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Deacon Dan Raidt. Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
