Herbert L. McLain Jr., 74, of Seymour, Ind., formerly of Lake St. Louis and Eureka, died Nov. 15, 2023, at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, Ind. Mr. McLain was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. He loved cooking, playing golf, boating, fishing, hunting and doing genealogy research. He was especially proud of his Scottish heritage and served as the Governor of State of Missouri Maclean clan. Born on Aug. 19, 1949, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Herbert I. McLain Sr. and Alberta (Noland) McLainViehland.
He is survived by his wife: Joan (Topie) McLain; his former wife: Mary (Kemp) Hampton; four children: Jennifer (Paul) Butler of Odenton, Md., Shon McLain of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Michelle (Clint) Papin and Kelly (John) Mittendorf of St. Louis County; two sisters: Terri McLain Green of Eureka and Sarah McLain of St. Charles; three brothers: Alex McLain of St. Charles, Randy Viehland of Eureka and Rick Viehland of Pacific; seven grandchildren: Katie McLain, Michael McLain, Emma Papin, Ronan Butler, Dieter Butler, Declan Butler and Maeve Butler.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Mark and Chris McLain; and one sister: Cindy Thomas.
Funeral services were held Nov. 20, at Spurgeon Funereal Home, Inc., in Brownstown, Ind. Burial was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour. Arrangements were under the direction of Spurgeon Funeral Home.
