Haynes, Henry Ella

Henry Ella Haynes, 98, of De Soto died May 19, 2025, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Haynes, known as “Grandma Florida,” worked at the Shoe Factory and White Rodgers. She enjoyed playing Mexican Train dominoes, befriending “snowbirds” from the North while living in Florida and traveling, having been to all 50 U.S. states, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and the Bahamas. Born April 30, 1927, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Georgia (Loyer) Hurst Wilson and Henry Joseph Hurst. She was the stepdaughter of the late Stanley Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Bobby Haynes.

She is survived by two children: Sherry Roxane “Roxie” (Gibbons) Wright Lane of De Soto and Troy Kevin (Lana) Gibbons Sr. of De Soto; two sisters-in-law: JoAn Haynes of St. Clair and Mary Ann (Haynes) Roth of Festus; eight grandchildren: Tracy (Kelly) Wright of the UK, James (Gina) Wright of Hillsboro, Troy (Billie) Gibbons Jr. of Hillsboro, Joshua (Whitney Robinson) Eaker of Belleville, Ill., Talitha Eaker of St. Louis, Sierra (Jason Arbogast) Eaker of De Soto, Sonja (Jeff) Lane Moore Dickerson of Kingsport, Tenn., and Philip David Lane of Thornton, Colo.; seven great-grandchildren: Shelby (Brenden Goforth) Gibbons of De Soto, Jeremy (Jenna) Harman of Hillsboro, Jasper Arbogast of De Soto, Luna Arbogast of De Soto, Philip Moore of Kingsport, Tenn., Blane Moore of Kingsport, Tenn., and Allison Lane of Thornton, Colo.; a great-great-granddaughter: Huntley Harman of Hillsboro; and a special niece: Donna (Dan) Hurst of Goodwin of Festus.

She also was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Philip Lane; a stepdaughter: Carla (Cord) Haynes Eaker; two brothers: Rolland Hurst and Vernon Hurst; and a brother-in-law: James Edward Haynes.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto. Burial will be in De Soto City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
