Gloria Jean Barnes, 79, of Festus died Oct. 9, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Ms. Barnes worked as a civil engineer for Jefferson Barracks. She was a member of Ward Chapel AEM, the Optimist Club, St. Louis County American Legion Memorial Post 111 and the Library Board of Festus. She enjoyed listening to music, doing crafts, going out to eat, shopping and especially spending time with her family, friends and dog, Lucy. Born Feb. 8, 1945, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Virginia (Batsell) and Sherman Barnes.
She is survived by her daughter: Tiffany (Jason) Therrell of Festus; two grandchildren: Whitney and Cannon Therrell; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister: Sue Barnes.
Visitation is scheduled from 3- 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Ave., in Festus. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue Floor 17, in Chicago, IL, 60601. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
