Frank L. Sophie Sr., 77, of Hillsboro died June 21, 2025. Mr. Sophie loved making memories, sharing laughs and spending time with friends and family, especially with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his warm heart, sense of humor and devotion to those he loved. Born July 8, 1947, he was the son of the late James Burkett and Esther (Scholl) Sophie.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Joyce (Mueller) Sophie; five children: Angie (Mike) Werkmeister, Frank (Pamela Ramsey) Sophie Jr., Dan (Sara Clendenin) Sophie, Mike (Laura Thias) Sophie and Mark (Amy Thomas) Sophie; seven grandchildren: Andrew Werkmeister, Matthew Werkmeister, Ryan Sophie, Emma Sophie, Lydia Sophie, Nick Sophie and Mia Sophie; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at John L. Ziegenhein and Sons South County Chapel, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis. Visitation will resume from 10:30 a.m. until a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Shepherd Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Louis Peregrine Society. Arrangements are under the direction of John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home.
