Turley, Frances

Frances Jean Cortor Turley, 94, formerly of Festus, died Dec. 24, 2023, at the Baptist Home in Ironton. Mrs. Turley was a retired LPN from Jefferson Barracks Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Festus/Crystal City, Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, VFW 3777 Auxiliary and the American War Mothers. She also served as past president of the National Gold Star Mothers. Born Sept. 8, 1929, in Judsonia, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Joyce Ercell (Miller) King and the late Homer Marvin Alexander.

She was preceded in death by husbands: Francis Edwin Cortor Sr. and Homer Turley.

She is survived by three sons: Phillip Dean (Antoinette) Cortor of Forest City, N.C., Dennis Paul Cortor of Festus and James Andrew Cortor of Portland, Ore.; a brother: Marvin Edward (Karen) Alexander of Herculaneum; four grandchildren: Andrea (Charles) Hamilton, Mark (Dana) Cortor, Jessica (Rob) Seymore and Danielle (Max) Pelli; and several great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by a son: Sgt. Frances Edwin “Duke” Cortor Jr., KIA Vietnam; a sister: Geraldine (the late Ernest) Stephens; and a stepfather: Edgar King.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to any veteran’s organization.  Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
