Ellen James “Jamie” Hanna, 80, of De Soto died Oct. 29, 2023, at de Greeff Hospice House at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Hanna was an educator and worked as assistant principal at Vineland Elementary School in De Soto. After retirement, she worked with her husband as a professor at Southwest Baptist University. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Born July 29, 1943, in Bloomfield, she is the daughter of Doris Mildred (Ponder) and Dr. Richard Sherman Davis.
She is survived by her husband: Ed Hanna; a daughter: Cindi (Jim) Maddock of Rock Hill; a sister: Mary (Bill) Lucas of Festus; two grandchildren: Hanna and Owen Maddock; a niece: Debbie (Pat) Gant; a nephew: Rick (Donna) Lamar; as well as many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Teresa Schultz.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday Nov. 2, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Gene Moses. Entombment will take place at Peaceful Ridge Mausoleum in De Soto. Memorials may be made to Vineland Elementary School. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
