Chailland, Edith 'Jane'

Edith “Jane” Chailland, 78, of Herculaneum died March 9, 2026, at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis County. Mrs. Chailland was a retired pharmacy technician from Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City, a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Herculaneum/Pevely and served as a volunteer sexton for the Herculaneum Cemetery.  She loved spending time with her family, sharing laughs, dinners, trips and phone calls. She enjoyed connecting with people and engaging in meaningful conversations. She looked forward to a good fish fry and enjoyed her frog leg dinners. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis' music, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and online shopping. Born Aug. 26, 1947, in Potosi, she was the daughter of the late Edith (Wright) and Thomas Hamby.

She is survived by her husband: Kenneth L. Chailland; four children: Dawn Nelson Olinger of Festus, Bradley (Ramona) Nelson of Lake St. Louis, Kenneth Chailland II of Winfield and Felicia Burke of St. Peters; two brothers: Thomas “Skip” (Cathy) Hamby III of Festus and Eric (Phyllis) Hamby of Paducah, Ky.; a sister: Joy (Jerry) Ipock of Festus; five grandchildren: Damian (Jenna Castro) Nelson, Marley Nelson, Jessica Perdomo, Lane (Kristie Robinson) Story and Sydney Burke; and nine great-grandchildren: Xavier Nelson, Madeline Thomas, Karlee Thomas, Donald Thomas Jr., Raegen Thomas, Sam Martinez, Brendan Brown, Isaiah “Ty” Perdomo and Mason Perdomo.

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Billy Nelson; a daughter: Lori (the late Donald) Story; a brother: William Lee Hamby; and four grandchildren: Zach Perdomo, Donald “Brandon” Thomas, Jerry (Dawn survives) Olinger and Samantha LaPlant.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Jeff Purvis of First Baptist Church of Herculaneum/Pevely. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Herculaneum/Pevely. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
