Douglas Magee, 60, of Athens, Ill., died Jan. 14, 2024, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill. Mr. Magee was a climber for a few local tree trimming companies as well as organic farmer. He attended PORTA High School and Athens High School. He was an honorary member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, drinking Mountain Dew and eating peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches. Born Aug. 31, 1963, in Springfield, Ill., he was the son of Linda (Rogers) Asher and the late Arthur Magee.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three aunts: Vicki Lee Mester, Deborah and Jane Burt; an uncle: Michael Dean Rogers; a nephew: Matthew Scott McLean; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Colleen McLean; three aunts: Phyllis, June Rogers, Mary Marie Rogers; two uncles: Carl Allen Rogers and Thomas Alvis Rogers; and his grandparents.
Burial of cremains will be in Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg, Ill. Memorials may be made to Animal Protective League of Springfield, Ill. Arrangements are under the direction of Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens, Ill.
