Dorothy (DeBacco) Baumhoegger, 98, of High Ridge died March 8, 2025, in Cedar Hill. Mrs. Baumhoegger was known for her storytelling and would often share memories of driving horse and wagon up the hill of Little Antire Road to help get firewood. In school, she received medals from many track meets. She married her husband on June 30, 1946, and they spent 75 years together. Baptized in 1946, she was active in the church and sang in the choir. She also was active in the American Legion and served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary for some time.
She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and played in the bowler league. She enjoyed gardening and taught others how to smoke grapevine. She loved sharing a drink, especially a martini, with others. She won the Daniel Boone trophy for marksmanship after being allowed to enter the men's competition instead of the Annie Oakley competition for women. She could fix a car with a hairpin or by tapping on the battery post with her high-heeled shoe. She loved animals and spending time with her pets.
She stayed close to her family, often visiting them in Louisiana, where she loved to fish and eat everything she caught. She also enjoyed traveling and camping with her sister, brother-in-law and their children, Jeff, Brian, Bootie and Eric. She loved spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born July 29, 1926, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel DeBacco.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Frederick Baumhoegger Jr.
She is survived by two children: Bob (Linda) Baumhoegger and Frederick (Jo) Baumhoegger III; six grandchildren: Rita, Daniel, Ricky, Holly, Chance and Gina; 11 great-grandchildren: Michael, Harley, Olivia, Cody, Sophia, Fred “Quin” V, Charley, Mathew, Cherrie, Preston and Delia; a sister: Norma Jean Newner; a dog: Bella; and numerous other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter: Rebecca Miller; and two brothers: Johnny DeBacco and Jerold DeBacco.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 400 in Fenton. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
