Fitzgerald, Donald

Donald James Fitzgerald, 85, of Pevely died March 16, 2025, at Fountainbleau Nursing Center in Festus. Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of Cross Point Church of Festus. He was known as a jack of all trades and enjoyed many hobbies throughout the years such as gardening, listening to gospel music, playing guitar and banjo, listening to CB radio, camping and four-wheeling. Born April 3, 1939, he was the son of the late June (King) Fitzgerald Heavin and Charles L. Fitzgerald.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Madeline (Hiatt) Fitzgerald.

He is survived by his daughter: Madeline (James Sr.) Richards of St. Clair; five sons: Don (Denise) Fitzgerald of Hillsboro, Joe (Linda) Fitzgerald of Buffalo, Gary (Lisa) Fitzgerald of Labadie, Ronnie (Joann) Fitzgerald of Linn Creek and Lonnie Fitzgerald of Linn Creek; two sisters-in-law: Emma Blalack of Arnold and Judy Cremeens of Festus; a brother-in-law: James (Donna) Hiatt of Hillsboro; 13 grandchildren: Christina (Jason) Hill, Valerie and Gary Welch, Crystal and James Richards Jr., Scott (Brittni), Chuck (Allyson), Lonnie, Courtney and Joseph (Mary-Kate) Fitzgerald, Amber Hamrick, Angela (Damien) Blanchard and James Cartwright; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers: Homer Childs and Irwin Wineinger; and three sisters: Delores (Wineinger) Semmel, Nellie Childs and June (nee Fitzgerald) Winchester.

Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until funeral services at noon Wednesday, March 19, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Pat Jones of Cross Point Church. Burial will be in Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to the Living Faith Food Pantry of Cross Point Church of Festus. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
