Donald H. Alcott, 76, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Oct. 9, 2024. Mr. Alcott was a graduate of St. Pius X High School and Jefferson College. In 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda, in Herculaneum. Active in his community, he enjoyed planning and attending events during his tenure as member and officer of the local and regional chapters of the Jaycees, as a member of both the Bolingbrook Grey Core and Civic and Cultural Affairs Committee and as an elected trustee for the Village of Bolingbrook. He also was involved in local political campaigns, a T-ball coach for his son’s team, a member of the Band Boosters and held office for his local homeowners’ associations. He received recognition and numerous awards and honors for his efforts. He loved golfing, fishing, playing poker with friends, watching football, reading and bowling with Linda. He was skilled at woodworking and carpentry and made numerous additions and improvements to their homes. He enjoyed being social, loved a good laugh, took pride in helping his community and made many friendships. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his support, encouragement and guidance. Born Jan. 25, 1948, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Donald Alcott and Selma (Stolzer) Alcott Braun.
He is survived by his wife: Linda (Scaggs) Alcott of Fort Worth, Texas; two children: Cynthia (H. Matthew) Aldridge of Joliet, Ill., and Steven (Melissa Modgling) Alcott of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandsons: Connor and Cooper Alcott of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother: James (Janet) Alcott of Festus; two sisters: Kathleen (the late Michael Keener) Johns of Middletown, Ohio, and Joan (Michael) Aubuchon of Mountain Home, Ark; a mother-in-law: Marian Williams of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother-in-law: Mark Leitterman of Festus; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Patricia Ann Alcott; a sister: Janet Leitterman; a stepbrother: Robert (the late Barbara) Braun; fathers-in-law: Harold Scaggs and Leroy Williams; a brother-in-law: Blake Williams; and a nephew: Shay Leitterman.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Mr. Michael Schulz. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery in Herculaneum. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
