Mensey, Daryl

Daryl Andra Mensey Sr., 70, of De Soto died Sept. 8, 2025. Mr. Mensey was the eldest of five children. He attended Soldan High School for formal education and then St. Louis Job Corp Center, with an emphasis in workforce skills and readiness training. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan. He attended Faith Ministry Center for a number of years and was baptized there on June 26, 2011, by Pastor William Coleman.

Mr. Mensey was known for his comedic personality and for living life to the fullest. He was interested in world news and kept up to date on social and political occurrences. He loved attending and watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed going to movie theaters, comedy shows and concerts. Additionally, music, especially Motown jams, was one of his passions along with fashion. He was always sharply dressed from head to toe; from wearing his well-creased Levi’s, Converse shoes and ball caps to three-piece suits, a derby hat and Stacy Adams “Knobs.”

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but also valued time relaxing by himself at home in a recliner in front of his television. He also enjoyed traveling and cherished the trip out of the country with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a present, proud dad and grandpa, who was just a phone call and text away. Born Oct. 20, 1954, he was the son of the late Clarence Mensey and June Florez. He was the stepson of the late James Florez.

He is survived by three children: Dr. Andrea S. Mensey-Boyles, Lucretia Mensey and Daryl A. Mensey Jr.; nine grandchildren: Prentis E. Boyles Jr., Anaiah C. Boyles, Faith K. Boyles, Donald Shaw Jr., Cardell Hester, Nyla Mensey-Carter, Emerie Mensey, Skylar Mensey and Dreylin Mensey; a great-grandchild: Cali Shaw; two brothers: Keith (Mary) Mensey and Roscoe Florez; two sisters: Cheryl (Aaron) Reddick and June (Tyrone) Ward; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild: Jaiden Mensey.
