Darrell Gay Hale, 82, of Festus died April 30, 2025. He enjoyed traveling, gun shoots with his relatives and friends and competing with or working on dirt bikes. He was known for his sense of humor, passion, enthusiasm and generosity. He is remembered for his fierce, determined and competitive spirit, as well as finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. Born Dec. 3, 1942, he was the son of Eunice and Rolla Hale.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Helen Mae Hale; a son: Larry Wayne Hale; two grandchildren: Mikami Yamato and Logan Dean Hale; and six great-grandchildren: Angel Hale, Brooklyn Hale, Zoe Hale, Chloe Hale, Nikolas and Vaclav Spinka.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Lynda Woolf Harris. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
