Charles “Gene” Colin, 83, of Festus died July 26, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Colin was a retired head groundskeeper at the old Jefferson Memorial Hospital. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He loved being outdoors as much as possible and especially enjoyed hunting. Born Nov. 13, 1941, in Festus, he was the son of the late Freda A. (Schlueter) and Clarence H. Colin.
He is survived by his wife: Linda (Stackley) Colin; a son: Aaron (Theresa) Brown of Goodyear, Ariz.; three grandchildren: Iliana Brown, Isabella Brown and Talan Brown.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Neil Colin; and a sister: Coleen Drissell.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until services at noon today, July 28, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the ASPCA Animal Hospital, 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
