Funston, Bonnie Sue

Bonnie Sue Funston, 75, of Herculaneum died April 24, 2026, at Southview Assisted Living in St. Louis County. Mrs. Funston was a retired educator, first working for two years with the Pacific School District and then finishing the rest of her teaching career at the Herculaneum-Dunklin School District. She was a member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Arnold and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. Born May 4, 1950, in Poplar Bluff, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Edwards) and Truman Hale.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Mark Frederick Funston. 

She is survived by two sons: Jeff (Denise) Funston of Festus and Kevin (Tricia) Funston of Sparta, Ill.; three grandchildren: Avery Funston, Maggie Funston and Delaney Funston; two sisters: Beverly (Tom) Wymore of Arnold and Patsy (Bill) Sullivan of Olathe, Kan.; many nieces and nephews; and numerous other family members and friends.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers: Nathan (Carol survives of Piedmont) Hale and Daniel (Cathy survives of Jackson) Hale. 

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, April 27, at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, 9115 Commercial Blvd., in Pevely, officiated by Pastor Jackson Watts. Burial will follow in Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to Grace Free Will Baptist Church, 2258 Tenbrook Road, in Arnold, 63010. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home.
