Betty L. (Hovis) Looney, 91, of Arnold died Aug. 26, 2024. Mrs. Looney graduated from Southeast State University in Cape Girardeau and received her master's in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a teacher in the Fox School District for 25 years and a member of South County Baptist Church. Born May 5, 1933, in Buckhorn, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Ruby (Pope) Hovis.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Walter G. Looney whom she married on August 16, 1964; two children: Elizabeth (Rickey) James and Walter Joseph (Jennifer) Looney; five grandchildren: Eric James and Taylor, Dylan, Caleb and Hannah Looney; five siblings: Gene Hovis, Ron Hovis, Layne Hovis, Carol McLard and Sharon Evenstad; and many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by a grandson: Travis James; and two siblings: Don Hovis and Kathryn Rhodes.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 1081 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold. An additional visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at South County Baptist Church, 12995 Tesson Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County. Arrangements are under the direction of Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home.
