Betty Jane Buechting, 97, of Herculaneum died May 13, 2025, at the Collins House in Festus. Mrs. Buechting was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely. She enjoyed gardening, watching hummingbirds at her feeders, going to yard sales and flea markets and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for being a social person who could strike up a conversation with anyone. Born Nov. 12, 1927, in Antonia, she was the daughter of the late Rose (Friedman) and Herman Martin.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Calvin William Buechting.
She is survived by a son: David (Michele) Buechting of Festus; two daughters: Terry (Gene) Watson of Gerald and Cindy (Michael) Dallas of Festus; 10 grandchildren: Renee (Kern) Swafford, Chad (Tina) Watson, Kimberly (Jason) Korman, Lori (Jeremy) Doerr, Lesley (Chris Wishner) Krieg, Chris (Mandi) Buechting, Shannon (Ken) Carter, Jill (Ron) Braddy, Jacob (Kari) Dallas and Mike (Lindy) Watson; 24 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a close friend: Debbie Price; and many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by two siblings: Helen (the late Vince) Joannes and Victor W. (the late Erna) Martin.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Zion Lutheran Church, 310 Central St., in Pevely, officiated by Pastor Bryan Roberts. Burial will be in Antonia Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
