Bent Collin, 85, of Cedar Hill died July 20, 2026. Mr. Collin was a two-time Vietnam veteran and was proud of his service and sacrifices. His adventurous spirit led him to explore 125 countries, and his Danish and Faroese heritage remained a special part of his identity, with many cousins still living in the Faroe Islands. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, he lived out his faith through quiet acts of kindness and helping those in need. He will be remembered for his fun-loving personality, infectious laughter and ability to light up a room. Born Sept. 11, 1940, in Copenhagen, Denmark, he was the son of the late Preben Collin and Kirsten (Eliasen) Collin.
He is survived by his wife: Wanda Lee (Oermann) Collin; two siblings-in-law: David Oermann and Jeffery (Jody) Oermann; two nephews: Jeffery D. (Jessica Bokermann) Oermann and Zachary (Lauren Watkins) Oermann; a great-nephew: Mason Bokermann; three exchange students who were like sons to him: Martin Narup of Denmark, Christian Grinbank of Spain and Sven Rowold of Germany; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Alice (the late Per) Larsen.
A memorial visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Immanuel Lutheran, 214 W. Fifth St., in Washington. Interment will take place at a later date in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.
