Barbara Jean “BJ” Eavy, 82, of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of Jefferson County, died Aug. 9, 2024, after a year-long struggle with the residual effects of breast cancer. She served for two years in the U.S. Peace Corps in Lesotho, teaching business management curricula to young women at the Lesotho Agricultural College. She also spent two years as a high school advisor and counselor for the students at the Tinian Senior High School in the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. She advised her husband’s work for Save The Children in Angola. She then worked for 10 years as the community development specialist for the University of Missouri Extension in Jefferson County.
She is survived by her husband: Dr. Lee Eavy; a daughter: Theresa Lynn Faulkner; a son: William Dickherber; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
