Ellis M. “Ellie” Carroll, 86, of Bonne Terre, formerly of De Soto, died April 5, 2023, at St. Joe Manor in Bonne Terre. Mrs. Carroll was a retired drama, debate, and English teacher at De Soto High School from 1968 to 1991. She also taught GED courses at De Soto for several years between 1998 and 2011. Born Dec. 25, 1936, in Jackson, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Marie Ellis (Roach) Baxter. She was preceded in death by her husband: James P. Carroll
She is survived by three children: Lynne (Wayne) Wickerham of Canyon Lake, Texas, Jamie (Danny) Pinson of Cadet and Catherine Carroll of Green Bay, Wis.; six grandchildren: Kristopher (Kathy) and Bryan (Nicole) Wickerham, Jay (Kristi), Wyatt and Jada Pinson and Zoe Stahl; five great-Grandchildren: Keagan, Keiran, and Kelsey Wickerham and Hayden and Lyla Pinson, with another on the way; and two nephews: Larry Baxter and John Baxter. She was preceded in death by a brother: the Rev. Bill (Blanche Bomer) Baxter; and a nephew: Bill Baxter.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 4 p.m. until a memorial service at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24, in the theater at De Soto High School, officiated by Mark Ferrell. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
