Diane Katherine Skaggs, 81, of Festus died May 13, 2023, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Skaggs was a school cook, working at Our Lady School in Festus and then at St. Pius X High School, where she retired after 21 years. She was a longtime member of Our Lady Catholic Church, where she was a member of the “Young at Heart” club. She also volunteered with the “Meals on Wheels” program at the Twin City Senior Center. She was born Feb. 11, 1942, in Festus, the daughter of the late Alma Agnes (Roth) and Andrew Michael Kreitler.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years: Frederick Gale Skaggs; a daughter: Debra Skaggs of Festus; two sons: Michael (Stephanie) Skaggs and Daniel (Vickie) Skaggs, both of Festus; a grandson: Cole Skaggs of Festus; a sister-in-law: Joanne Krietler of St. Louis; and many friends. She was preceded in death by a sister Margaret M. (the late Cletus “T.B.”) LaRose; and a brother: Roger A. Kreitler.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Our Lady Church, 1550 St. Mary’s Lane, in Festus, officiated by Father Gregory Klump. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
