Daniel W. Whaley, 71, of De Soto died Aug. 23, 2023, in Blackwell. Mr. Whaley worked for the Winter Brothers Material Co. as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513. He was a member of the De Soto Elks and De Soto VFW. He enjoyed sports, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Born Oct. 26, 1951, in Blackwell, he was the son of the late Mary (Missey) and Bernard Whaley.
He is survived by his wife: Sheila (Robinson) Whaley; two children: Jennifer (Brad) Schaeffer of De Soto and Cynthia (Tommy Watkins) Whaley-Wicker of Festus; three siblings: Susan (Duane) Ferguson, Robert “Bob” (Pat) Whaley and Richard (Dot) Whaley, all of De Soto; and two grandchildren: Sebastian Wicker and Layla Schaeffer.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Wilkerson; and a brother: Larry Whaley.
No services were held. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, De Soto.
