White, Carla

Carla Joan "Flo" (Pfotenhauer) White, 61, of Crystal City died Sept. 28, 2023, in Festus. Mrs. White was an all-American volleyball player at Jefferson College and Florida Southern University. She started her career at Jefferson Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk and worked at the hospital while attending Jefferson College, pursuing a nursing degree. She served a year as director of nursing at Hillcrest Care Center in De Soto. Starting in 1997, she spent 10 years as a charge nurse on the pediatric rehab floor at Children's Hospital. She worked as director of nursing at The Villas nursing home in De Soto from 2008 through 2012 and got her nursing home administrator’s license in 2011. She was the administrator for Georgian Gardens nursing home in Potosi from 2012 until 2014 and served as interim director of nursing for 360 Health Care Staffing Agency. She had many hobbies and interests that included watching local sports, returning to Jefferson College for alumni volleyball and basketball games and traveling to AAU basketball games across the country. Most of all she enjoyed being a mother to four kids and being a wife. Born Aug. 28, 1962, in Crystal City, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Maxine (Hewitt) Pfotenhauer.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years: Brian K. White of Crystal City; four children: Lindsey M. White of Festus, Tyler K. White of Phoenix, Ariz., Jared L. White of Crystal City and Alexis C. White of Missoula, Mont.; five grandchildren: Arihanna, Owen, Grayson, Elijah and Cooper; a brother: Mark (Lynn) Pfotenhauer of Creve Coeur; a sister: Jane (Ricky) Culton of Festus; four nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and -nephews.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 p.m. until a funeral service at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins, in Festus. Burial will take place at 1:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the St. Louis Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Place, 63110. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
