Norma "Jo" Isenhower

Norma Jo Isenhower, 88, formerly of Lamar, died Feb. 24, 2014, at her home in Harlingen, Texas.

Mrs. Isenhower was a service representative for Bell Telephone and a cashier at Savings & Loan. She had served as a charter board member of the first ambulance district in Barton County. After moving to Harlingen in 1994, she was a volunteer for H.O.S.T.S. (Help One Student to Succeed) for 14 years.

Born Aug. 7, 1925, in Jasper, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Nell (Neeley) Hardenbrook. She married Jay W. Isenhower, a World War II veteran, on Nov. 5, 1944; they were married for 58 years before his death on Dec. 5, 2002. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Earl.

Survivors include her daughter: Nancy (Bob) Smith of Festus; a son: John J. Isenhower of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren: Jason (Emily) Smith of Mason, Ohio, Ashleigh (Carey) Nagel of Arnold and Malcolm Isenhower, of Chicago, Ill.; five great-grandchildren: Jack, Benjamin and Samuel Smith, and Carson and Evelyn Nagel; a sister: Nancy Woodward of Lamar; a sister-in-law: Carolyn Isenhower of Fontana, Kan.; two nieces; and six nephews.

The Isenhower family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Daniel Funeral Home, 1201 Broadway St., in Lamar, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service officiated by her grandson, Pastor Jason Smith. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery.
