Norma Jean (Yates) Micke, 81, of De Soto died April 30, 2016, in St. Louis. Mrs. Micke was a retired equipment operator with Sunline Candy. She was a member of the VFW Post 1831 and Amvets Post 48 Ladies Auxiliaries, serving as chapter president for both groups and state president for the Amvets. She was very good at crossword puzzles and enjoyed reading, bowling, playing horseshoes and being with her grandchildren. Born March 6, 1935, in Fertile, she was the daughter of the late William and Sara (Dearing) Yates.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Albert J. Micke of De Soto; two sons: Albert “Kevin” (Tammy) Micke of Arnold and Alan Joseph (Jeanne) Micke of Barnhart; five grandchildren: Lauren (Dennis) Long, Justin (Alexandria) Micke, Jeffrey (fiancee Brittany Slayton) Micke, Aaron (Torie) Micke and Tyler Micke; two great-grandchildren: Conner and Hudson Long; a brother: Gerald Yates of De Soto; and a sister: Betty Labbee of De Soto.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Chester, Charles, Lawrence and Thurlow Yates; and a sister, Anna Belle Coleman.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Mahn Funeral Home , 900 N. Main, in De Soto. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at St. Rose of Lima Church in De Soto, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial is in the Peaceful Ridge Mausoleum in De Soto.
